ABSTRACT

As the next chapters will show, there are several forms of anti-G protection available to pilots. These are in addition to the management of the various factors that determine tolerance to applied +Gz, as discussed in the previous chapters. One of the earliest forms of anti-G protection is the anti-G straining manoeuvre (AGSM). While there are several variations of AGSM, they all effectively share common elements. The beauty of the AGSM (in whatever manifestation) is that it requires no technology or equipment. It is a human-centred +Gz protective countermeasure. It requires adequate training in how to perform the manoeuvre, as well as practice to optimise its usefulness.
