ABSTRACT

Candidates do not have to think about what they have actually done at work recently. Explanations are required from the candidate and they will want to sound credible. The merger of Glaxo Wellcome and SmithKline Beecham to form GlaxoSmithKline in 2000 was a gift to the unscrupulous candidate an organisation large enough to offer a candy store of job titles which would be hard to verify. Sky diving, high-rise climbing, abseiling and bungee jumping in a mature introverted candidate would fall into the same category. Frequent changes suggest some inadequacy, dispositional or performance based, on the part of the individual. With a little reflection or some prompting by a skilful and empathetic interviewer, the memory kicks in and candidates can talk quite fluently about their achievements and the details which provided the opportunity. If interviewers have training on how to interview then it is right that candidates can have training in being interviewed.
