ABSTRACT

Nanocomposite hydrogels (NCHs) are superior biomaterials that can efficiently be used for various biomedical and pharmaceutical applications. The application of these hydrogel networks includes sensors, actuators, drug delivery, stem cell engineering, regenerative medicine, other biomedical devices, etc. Compared to conventional polymeric hydrogels, NCHs have exceptional physical, chemical, electrical, and biological properties which make them potential candidates for various biomedical applications. The improved performance of the NCH network is mainly attributed to the enhanced interactions between the polymer chains and nanoparticles. This chapter deals with different types of NCHs and highlights some of the emerging biomedical and biotechnological applications of those hydrogels.
