ABSTRACT

The group therapist may use the activity as a means to increase awareness of relationship dynamics. This activity may be used in the latter half of the initial stage of group development, as group members may be less intimidated to share their experiences in assuming and describing behavioral cues of friendship and romance. The group therapist reads the instructions for the entire activity and asks if there are questions or concerns. The group therapist may use this activity and Past Loves Resume as a means to increase self-awareness of interpersonal patterns. Once this awareness of patterns in relationships has unfolded, group members may move forward in determining a goal for a healthier change. The activities were developed and used in numerous groups to address relationship issues; the handouts are especially helpful for group members who lack compliance in reading assignments as homework. These activities and handouts serve as techniques to increase self-awareness in regards to intra- and interpersonal relationships.
