ABSTRACT

Chapter 2 begins by discussing the neurobiological contribution to understanding the development of an eating disorder. This section traces the neurological underpinnings of eating disorders, and describes cognitive deficits that seem to be present in this patient group. It also looks at how they perform on cognitive testing, which fills out the growing picture of fragility in neurological functioning. The research on alexithymia (the inability to put feelings into words) is looked at in relationship to eating disorders.
