ABSTRACT

The neurons that transmit pain impulses are components of the sensory nervous system and are referred to as A-delta and C-fibers. A-delta fibers are thin and poorly myelinated. C-fibers are one-tenth the diameter of A-delta fibers, are unmyelinated, and transmit impulses ten times more slowly than A-delta fibers.l4

C-fibers have a higher threshold for stimulation and transmit a more unpleasant pain sensation.14
