ABSTRACT

A new geochemical exploration method is demonstrated for the exploration of platinum-group elements (PGE) in which platinum and palladium are used as direct indicator elements. The Pt, Pd and Au content in IOg geochemical survey samples are determined by emission spectrometry after a pre-concentration procedure and detection limits of 0.2 ppb for Pt and 0.1 ppb for Pd and Au are achieved. In this paper focus is placed on the method and techniques employed and positive results using regional stream sediment surveys for PGE’s in the main PGE metallogenic provinces in China and the Bushveld Complex of South Africa are illustrated.
