ABSTRACT

The fact that some at least of the Christian Democratic movements, in such important fields as politics or the labour movement, have expanded to, or within striking distance of, the natural limits of their recruitment, obviously poses a question. Where next? If their in fluence is to go on growing, are new sources of membership to be tapped, or is it enough to strengthen the various movements within their existing limits and add to their alliances outside? Should the existing structure of Christian parties and social movements, recruiting in fact if not in theory overwhelmingly from Christian believers, be ‘broken through’?
