ABSTRACT
During the 1st June heavy enemy attacks developed on the British sector of the line, and our forces had to give some ground. By nightfall, however, the enemy advance had been checked on a line Bergues–Uxem–Ghyvelde, thence due east of the frontier and along the frontier defences to the sea.
