ABSTRACT

The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) is one of the regional trading agreements entered upon by sovereign nations of South and Southeast Asia—India, Myanmar, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal—lying in the littoral and adjacent areas of the Bay of Bengal. Games between the youth of North-East and BIMSTEC countries can be a synergizer and an icebreaker. BIMSTEC provides an excellent opportunity for India to deliver development, peace, progress and prosperity to its landlocked, peripheral North-Eastern region. All the countries forming the BIMSTEC are located in the vicinity with a shared culture, history and civilisation. Through BIMSTEC, the inter-cultural weaves amongst the people can be revived and reinforced, deepening the integration down to the grass-root level. Certainly, BIMSTEC could be a potential game changer as countries in the sub-regional cooperation along with the North-East of India are bound by geography and linked by history.
