A note on Adam Smith’s first invisible hand

At WN V.ii.h.3, in reference to vicesima hereditatum, the famous inheritance tax imposed by the Emperor Augustus, Adam Smith cites a classical historian, Dio Cassius, and adds a note containing a reference to a modern tract on the Roman system of taxation: P. Burman, De vectigalibus populi romani.1
