ABSTRACT

A hydro-sedimentary numerical study was performed on a real shallow reservoir to evaluate the ability of 2D and 3D models to reproduce the flow structure and sediment transfer in these infrastructures. The 3D model captured the global behavior of the hydrodynamic and sediment transport processes at reservoir scale. The 2D model provided satisfying but less accurate results. The differences between the two models were mainly due to the 2D model not representing the 3D effects at the upstream boundary condition which significantly influence the hydrodynamics in a large part of the basin.
