ABSTRACT

A list of factors to be accounted for development of a correct mathematical model of concrete dam behaviour under static and seismic loads is given with formulation of modified Newmark scheme for numerical solution of dynamic equilibrium equations. Demonstrated is the importance of consideration of sequential erection of high dams in assessment of their seismic stability. An algorithm of reduction of initial accelerograms to the boundary surface of a computational foundation block is described. The necessity of consideration of inertial time lag of the foundation rock mass in development of dynamic computational models is illustrated and the seismic resistance criterium recommended to be applied in numerical modelling of the “dam-foundation-reservoir” system response to seismic loads formulated.
