ABSTRACT
This is a numerical study of the soil-structure interaction of a double cut and cover tunnel in Norway. The tunnel has two separate tubes and is supported by two relatively thin concrete arcs. The structures are built on the bottom of a 10–20 meter deep pit in clay and rock. Sand and gravel are back filled to the initial terrain surface. Thus, the two structures interact with each other, with the back-filled material and with a clayey slope. The computer program Plaxis is applied on the case to perform a non-linear, plane strain FEM analysis of the successive construction stages in the serviceability limit state. The final displacements and internal forces in the structures are presented, as well as the deformations and stress conditions in the surrounding soil.
