ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses the ecological approach in education and healthcare practice, which is characterized by the principles developed as a result of theoretical research and the components of professional competence. The healthcare discipline consists of four main abstract concepts: a person, health, environment and healthcare. Nursing theories define the basic concepts in nursing, pointing out that a person is an individual or a family or a community or even the whole humanity. In the education process and healthcare practice of students, dyadic relationships provide critical context for individual development. The ecological approach involves dynamic, engaging active learning, based on the principle of acquiring wider knowledge, in order to understand the problem and situation solution in the context of a real healthcare environment. In nursing education and healthcare, the philosophical rationale behind the formation and development of the ecological approach and ecological competence is the deep ecology and ecosophy.
