ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the results obtained through the phytosanitary education methodology used by the Carambola Fruit Fly (CFF) Eradication Program based on the SOMA Method. Since the initial detection of the quarantine pest Bactrocera carambolae (Drew & Hancock) in the Raposa Serra do Sol native reserve, Roraima, Brazil, this program has contributed to the eradication of the CFF and the maintenance of a protected area, which is the minimum area necessary for the effective protection of an endangered area found in the extreme north of Roraima.
