ABSTRACT

A safe and cost-effective solution has been applied for large scale infrastructure project in Dubai (UAE), with the use of locally available sands material to create Dynamic Replacement (DR) reinforcement columns, enabling the construction of the planned development directly on the improved ground without need for deep foundations or soil replacement measures. Significant savings in terms of construction time and cost have been achieved. Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) has been used in this project as the best suited and most reliable tool for design and monitoring of DC-DR projects. It provides valuable information and serves as a basis for design, monitoring and optimization of the ground improvement works. This paper briefly describes the use of CPT for the optimization of the ground improvement solution as well as for the entire project life-cycle.
