ABSTRACT

This chapter covers injury to the blood vessels of the upper and lower extremities and the junctional areas of the body (axilla and groin). The influence of injury on vascular pathology is discussed and clinical presentations are described in a novel manner using haemorrhagic and ischaemic clinical signs. Focus is placed on bedside diagnostic manoeuvres and operative preparation relevant to surgical practice in austere conditions. Vascular damage control including shunting, selective ligation, and fasciotomy are discussed. Basic vascular reconstruction techniques and considerations for repair of all junctional and extremity vascular injuries are covered in detail.
