ABSTRACT
A circular monopole ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna with a notch band is presented. The centre frequency of the notch is adjusted for the Wi-MAX band, i.e., 5.8 GHz. The antenna has a compacted size of 30×30×1.6 mm3 and is engraved on an FR4 substrate with a loss tangent of 0.025. The monopole structure is used to achieve a larger bandwidth and an omnidirectional radiation pattern. In addition, the band notch characteristics in the design have been realized by etching a modified U-slot on the circular patch. The designed antenna provides stable gain except for the notch band. The measured as well as simulated results show good agreement with each other, thus making the antenna suitable for UWB applications.
