ABSTRACT
A visitor to Old Goa could be surprised by the marked use of coffered vaults with specific characteristics which exist in many of the churches. However, they are a common feature throughout the region of Goa, a fact which has received very little attention in existing research. This article aims to contextualize the establishment of this architectural typology and its characteristics, to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of its construction and understand how it survived the following centuries.
