ABSTRACT

This chapter uses detailed case study buildings to demonstrate the applications of the research on occupant-centric design methods developed and described in this book. The case studies serve to show the strengths and the shortcomings of current occupant modeling and building design approaches. The case studies were selected based on: (1) accessibility to information about the case study, (2) breadth of design/construction phases among the case studies, and (3) the usability of analysis outcomes in advancing occupant modeling approaches. The case studies are diverse in project phase, location, climate zone, building type and size, and analysis approach. The analysis of the selected case studies covers diverse climates and the entire life cycle of a building including schematic design, design development, construction detailing and construction, and operation.
