ABSTRACT

In this article, a similitude is constructed between human anatomy and statistical science. The symbol and focus of the former are the human body, while the latter is data. As one cannot talk about medicine without humans, talking about statistics without data is a ruse. Statistical practice is viewed in the realm of “surgical practice” and dissected as the act of performing “surgical procedures” on data. A close examination of contemporary issues, such as abuses, misuses, and misconceptions, in statistical practice is cautiously highlighted and solutions proffered.
