ABSTRACT

This section of the chapter shows the process of a crawling dataset from social media (SM), especially an unstructured dataset from Twitter using its application program interface. It also presents a step-by-step procedure of text mining with R programming implementation using appropriate natural language processing techniques. Existing literature is reviewed on related data science concepts vis-à-vis processes of text analytics using Twitter data. This document used a dataset on 2,000 tweets on hashtag #climatechange in Nigerian cyberspace. This study will be handy for those interested in learning how datasets are harvested online in the SM domain and will also serve as a convenient guide on the know-how of text mining using R programming. It also provides insight into the features, characteristics, and public opinion on climate change. The section of the chapter provides a valuable resource for researchers, laboratories, and stakeholders in media, communication, and policy units.
