ABSTRACT

When designing new technologies in healthcare, Rens Brankaert concludes that the health or technological perspective is often leading, while the client or patient interest is often overlooked. He is active in the healthcare sector and works with healthcare professionals, design professionals, and design researchers to develop “warm technology.” According to Brankaert, warm technology means inclusive technology that focuses on what a client or patient can do. In “Inclusive Design in Healthcare,” he describes how design research contributes to the challenge of providing healthcare professionals with sufficient design skills, enabling them to start using design research in practice.
