ABSTRACT

“We are not anti-social; we're cybersocial.” This statement, by a student in reaction to a frequent reproach about anti-social behavior in digital rooms and the increased loneliness of people due to exchanging physical interaction for digital contact, is what got the ball rolling for sociologist and psychologist Anja Overdiek. How can digital technologies strengthen networking for sustainable and resilient new systems? In “Smart Transitions With Design,” she effectively links people's problems to reference frameworks and future possibilities through applied design research.
