ABSTRACT

For years, the research world of Eveline Wouters, classically trained in medicine and epidemiology, was dominated by Randomized Controlled Trials, experiments and cohort studies as leading research methods. While very much appreciating the value of these methods, Wouters had to admit that all these years, she had missed something, namely the “improvement step,” the step toward the future. In “A New Mindset in Research,” she describes how she has been introduced to an ever-broader arsenal of research methods over the years, with design research taking a special place. Wouters regards applied design research as more than a research method; to her, it is a mindset that focuses on the full involvement of the end user in the design of a product, service, or organizational change.
