ABSTRACT

How we experience our living environment and the effect of living space on our social, physical, and mental health are fundamental to our health and well-being. With a resident-led approach, Masi Mohammadi contributes to the development of an “empathic environment”—a reactive and understanding environment that allows users to shape their lives (self-reliant) based on their own capabilities, conditions, and preferences. In shaping an empathic living environment, Mohammadi seeks smart architectural remedies for healthy living. Together with partners from science, industry, housing associations, and healthcare organizations, she founded the Dutch Empathic Environment Living (DEEL) labs to empirically evaluate emerging housing typologies and their impact on users’ health and social engagement.
