ABSTRACT

In his “Letter From the Future,” Jeroen van den Eijnde gives his grandson advice on making a well-considered study program choice. This future vision introduces us to the Higher Education and Research Education system, which in 2046 will include research and vocational training courses. Next, granddad Jeroen looks back on his years as a lecturer of Tactical Design at ArtEZ Arts School of the Arts, where he tries to contribute to a sustainable future with bold ideas—from textiles made from mushrooms to a new building facade incorporating a coffee machine, refrigerator, and microwave for indoor and outdoor use. Finally, he answers the most crucial question: How can we, as a community, be good ancestors? According to Van den Eijnde, applied design research is the best answer to this question.
