ABSTRACT

Instead of focusing on solving problems and finding solutions, designers sometimes have to cause problems too. That is, if you ask Eke Rebergen, Sebastian Olma, and Wander Eikelboom. In “Looking for Trouble,” they reveal their ideas about “trouble through design,” where designers have to question social-cultural and ethical consequences of technological developments and use design to demonstrate that the world can be different. This critical attitude of designers is essential to raise, stir up, and familiarize themselves with problems. And according to these three researchers, it is okay if that sometimes process is a bit abrasive or feels a bit uncomfortable.
