ABSTRACT

To analyze the long-term barrier integrity of bedded salt formations, numerical models of a generic repository for heat-generating nuclear waste were developed (Liu et al. 2019). This study focuses on comparing the influences of selected model properties and material parameters. Under consideration of the thermal loading caused by disposal of heat generating nuclear waste, three sets of numerical investigations have been carried out, including variation of mesh density, model dimension and material stiffness of selected geological layers. Thermal (T) and thermomechanical coupled (TM) modeling has been conducted by using the finite element method. The results are discussed in this paper.
