ABSTRACT

A novel constitutive modeling method which assumes expansive soft rock as the parallel composite mixture of rock matrix and expansive soil is proposed in this study. The rock matrix is modeled as the elastic damage model to represent the cementation on mechanical characteristics. The expansive soil is modeled by the double structure model for expansive soil to describe the mineralogical swelling due to wetting. The proposed model reasonably considers the interaction between cementation and mineralogical swelling on the mechanical characteristics of expansive soft rock and its transition.
