ABSTRACT
For the investigations on the effective seismic reinforcement method of the masonry walls, a stability evaluation method to reveal the collapse mechanisms of the masonry walls is strongly demanded. This study focused on a coupled Material Point Method and Discontinuous Deformation Analysis (MPM- DDA) that can treat the mechanical interaction among the materials such as the stones and the backfill soil within a large deformation range. A shaking table experiment of a masonry wall model was simulated using the MPM-DDA to check the validation of the method for seismic response analysis of masonry walls. The simulated results agreed quantitatively well with the experiment using the material properties obtained in the experiment, and the validity of the MPM-DDA was successfully confirmed.
