ABSTRACT

The Jambi Malay language and Kubu dialect have many differences in their vocabulary. To ensure that the principles of Islamic aqidah education are thoroughly understood so that what is conveyed can be understood well, ustadz (Islamic preachers) should employ specific strategies when delivering their lessons. The purpose of the research was to find out the effect of using the Jambi Malay language in describing Islamic aqidah educational values for OR (Orang Rimba) and to find out a strategy for describing it to OR at Lubuk Kayu Aro. The research used a qualitative method – observation, interviews, and documentation – for collecting data. The results were (1) The influence of using the Jambi Malay language was quite strong because of the intensity of ustad-conducted religious lectures in the OR group; (2) the occurrence of code mixing carried out by OR when they converse with ustad; and (3) The strategy used by the ustad in conveying Islamic aqidah was a personal approach consisting of (a) exemplary behavior; (b) habituation; and (c) advice.
