ABSTRACT

This article aims to understand the linguistic meaning of the word emergency and to review the development of its concept in Islamic juridical philosophy, including its practice in shariah economic transactions. Through the qualitative library research method, the data were taken from some books, articles, journals, or magazines that discuss the meaning of emergency vocabulary in Islamic legal tradition. The data were analyzed using content analysis techniques and presented descriptively in the context of normative perspective. The study concluded that several linguistic terms have similar meanings to the concept of emergency, namely mashaqqah and hājah; These vocabularies were used in the similar context within Islamic economic legal discources.
