ABSTRACT

In the renewal of old road bridges, precast decks are used to make construction time shorter and quality better. A waterproof layer is applied at the top surface of the deck to avoid the intrusion of water accelerating concrete deterioration. However, waterproofing is one of the causes of construction time delays because waterproof work must be conducted under dry conditions. From this reason, we have been hoping to develop a precast deck to omit waterproofing at the site. To satisfy this hope, we have just developed a high durable PC deck with waterproof performance by ultra-high-strength fiber reinforced concrete (UFC) on the top surface of the deck. On this report, we are going to state the feature of this new deck and the experiments conducted to confirm the waterproof performance required for 100 years of road track service.
