ABSTRACT

Data are non-traditional assets, and the valuation of data is a relatively modern practice that is still in its early stages. However, data valuation affects not just companies of all sizes but also smart cities. There is also no general agreement on the best way to measure the value of data, and it is challenging to do so. Particularly, this chapter aims to shed light on data valuation and city data marketplaces. A multivocal literature review was conducted to systematically review academic and professional literature and identify data valuation methods and dimensions proposed for data markets. The findings will provide not only a state of the art of this area but also a set of implications in terms of promises and pitfalls for city data marketplaces. Therefore, this chapter aims to benefit the readers (both researchers and practitioners) by providing an up-to-date and balanced view of this area.
