ABSTRACT
Plastic, the most versatile and wonder material, is the product of spectacular developments in the area of polymer science and technology. The penetration and acceptance of plastics into the social network is so high that it is now difficult to conceive a world without plastics. The very factors that popularize plastics in our modern life are in fact a threat also to our very survival. Disposal of plastic waste is a major problem. It is non-biodegradable and it mainly consists of low-density polyethylene plastic bags and other plastic scrap. 500 trillion bags are consumed every year in the whole world. And this we are just throwing away, which is the main cause of plastic pollution. Burning of these waste plastic bags causes environmental pollution. Burning one kilo of plastic releases 3 kilos of carbon dioxide, a gas that contributes to global warming. Plastic waste going to landfill sites may take 500–1000 years to completely degrade. The main objective of our work and technology is to utilize waste plastic scrap for designing tiles in the building of structures and rooms for the general public for societal benefits. The various issues like mechanical strength, flame retardancy, water permeability, UV-protection from sunlight, acid and alkali resistance and antistatic response have been studied and are the novelty of the technology.
