ABSTRACT
The demand for ways to explore and understand how applications and services behave in a shared software defined infrastructures is increasing. Completely new applications are emerging, alongside “Big Data” and the convergence of services with mobile networks and the Internet of Things (IoT) all exploiting Cloud scalability and flexibility along with integration with software defined networks. The range of application sectors places significant challenges for cloud infrastructure and application providers. BonFIRE provided infrastructure capacity to support medium scale cloud experiments through a permanent infrastructure providing a hub that was used as the foundation for growth to larger scale experiments through additional on-request resources and relationships with 3rd party suppliers. BonFIRE offered services based on unique design principles that were easily obtained in public clouds but are important for cloud-based testing on novel future internet applications. The Portal offers the experimenter a graphical interface to the BonFIRE capabilities.
