ABSTRACT
Owing to the proportional growing demand for clean and affordable energy, the production of hydrogen via electrolysis of water has seen significant advancements. This review summarizes recent progresses achieved in the area of non-precious metal-based electrodes that are being utilized for the electrochemical hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in alkaline water electrolysis. Based on the HER and OER mechanisms, common strategies to improve the electrocatalytic performance are proposed.2.1 Introduction
