ABSTRACT

Sustainable genetic resources in a tropical country are considered very important. Various efforts have been performed to conserve and improve the productivity of ruminants by enhancing both genetics and the environment, also good breeding and artificial insemination (AI). Conservation efforts and commercialization are carried out conventionally. In Indonesia, AI is important to accelerate livestock production; this is a strategy, especially on smallholder farms. The problems of genetic resource management are as follows: How to develop and utilize research development results, the genetic impact of the implementation of AI to accelerate the improvement of genetic quality and how to manage the conservation and commercialization of local Indonesian animal genetic resources. The primary role of the AI center is to provide superior, fertile candidate males. It is time to start evaluating the genetic normality of the local breed. Molecular analysis of gen or chromosomes needs to be implemented in males for AI.
