ABSTRACT
This study was conducted to evaluate the reproduction index of the mature female Kacang goat managed by smallholders in Talawi district, West Sumatera Province, Indonesia. A total of 281 Kacang does data were purposively selected and collected from around 1,028 Kacang goat population through surveys and interviews with 128 farmers. All of the data were analyzed descriptively. The result showed that the Kacang goat delivered single kids as much as 45.45%, twins as 53.03%, and 1.51% as triplets per birth, with the average litter size, was 1.51. The pre-weaning mortality is 21.86%. The kidding interval and days open were 7.61 and 2.61 months, respectively. Moreover, the results also showed that the Kacang had a reproduction index of 1.87. The research concluded that Kacang goats are well adapted and suitable to be reared by Talawi District smallholders regarding performance and reproduction index.
