ABSTRACT

The aims of this study were to reveal the morphometrics of Poteh Goat and characterize the rearing system of this goat. Data were collected from 200 female goats of different ages (1–3 years). Five morphometric characteristics measured including chest girth, body length, wither height, tail length, and ear length. The value of these characteristics was 59.94 + 11.02 cm, 51.29 + 8.64 cm, 59.09 + 9.10 cm, 15.82 + 3.25, and 19.35 + 2.40 cm, respectively. Poteh Goat has bright white color, short ears, square iris of eyes, and the udder type similar to the Saanen Goat. In regard to the rearing system, most farmers used a semi-intensive approach to raise goats and browsing in the dry season. The main source of nutrients was fodder, from grass, leaves, and woody shrubs. They browse twice per day during the dry season and eat mostly dry leaves from agricultural land, backyard, and marginal land in the hill or forest.
