ABSTRACT

Performance test in Bali cattle have been conducted for several years in Indonesia. Evaluation of this program is important to maintain and improve the performance of Bali cattle. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the phenotypic traits of the body weight in Bali cattle from year of 2017 to 2021. We analyzed 663 data on birth weight (BW), 547 data on weaning weight (WW), and 463 data on yearling weight (YW) in Bali cattle at the Breeding Centre of Bali Cattle, Denpasar. The data were analyzed using analysis of variance in a completely randomized design with a unidirectional pattern applying the R Studio software. The mean of BW, WW, and YW were 18.82 ± 2.17; 91.70 ± 16.96; 144.55 ± 24.06 for male and 18.77 ± 2.43; 91.35 ± 16.75; and 129.68 ± 18.98 for female. The results showed that sex type had no effect on BW and WW (P>0.05) but had a significant effect on YW (P<0.01). The year of birth gave significant effect on BW, WW, and YW (P < 0.01). The result of BW in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 were 19.55 ± 1.86; 19.75 ± 2.25; 18.26 ± 2.13; 18.41 ± 2.05; 19.14 ± 2.01, respectively. The trend for BW, WW and YW fluctuates between year. This condition indicates that selection program was conducted based on the performance, not based on breeding value.
