ABSTRACT

A city is a place in which it has the identity of the city itself. The city of Bogor is a city in which there is an integration of various ethnic groups in it, one of which is the Arab tribe with an Arab village in it and the Chinese tribe with the Chinatown area in Bogor. In the long journey of the city, there is a history of social integration of the Chinese community in Bogor, as we often find in Chinatown areas in other cities where the existence of Chinatowns is very closely related to very exclusive trade economic interests by creating settlements that unite functions with economic activities. Their trade, which we can generally recognize from the ethnic Chinese area or Chinatown is the emergence of a collection of shophouse buildings (ruko). As in the Chinatown area of other cities, the social portrait of the Chinese settlements in Bogor also forms a similar thing. Based on this background, it is interesting that we discuss the Chinatown area in the city of Bogor, where the Bogor market which was the center of economic activity from the past was even the forerunner to the formation of the city of Bogor. The very long history of the Chinatown area around the Bogor market which gives a very large cultural significance value to the city of Bogor. This research will identify the characteristics of Chinatown architecture in buildings around Bogor Market. This identification is carried out by conducting a study starting from the front view of the building to detailing in the buildings around the Bogor market so that it can be concluded that the Chinatown character in the buildings around the Bogor Market is the hallmark of forming regional identity in the city of Bogor. This identification will also be taken into consideration whether the buildings around the Bogor Market can be categorized as forming a conservation area in Bogor City.
