ABSTRACT
Block printing is one of the surface textile design techniques which is generally handmade. The process, which is quite time-consuming and requires high hand skills in making printing plates, is often an obstacle for creators to express their ideas. But now, digital technology's development has an opportunity to contribute to producing alternatives to printing plates significantly. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the potential use of block printing plates made with 3d printing technology. This research uses the qualitative method of conducting literature studies, practitioner interviews, direct observation, and explorations by testing several variables. As a result, by comparing some of its visual and technical aspects, the PLA plate made by 3d printing has the potential to be used in block printing techniques. It makes a craftmanship shift to produce contemporary craft textile and fashion products.
