ABSTRACT

The city of Bandung preserves many historical buildings. Several historic buildings are in neglected condition. Some were knocked down because they were not in accordance with the current development of the city. These problems are often experienced by many historical buildings in Indonesia. The purpose of this paper is to examine adaptive reuse strategies in hotel interiors in Bandung. The research methods used are qualitative methods with descriptive analysis. Maison Teraskita hotel was originally the Waskita Karya office building. The building is a historic building with a grade B in the city of Bandung, which now switched its functions into a four-star boutique hotel. The adaptive reuse strategy is implemented on the building. The old building and the new building are combined. The old building is used as a lobby and coffee shop, while the new building consists of hotel rooms and meeting rooms. The hotel's interior design follows the Art Deco style. This style connects the old and the new buildings. The adaptive reuse strategy has become a solution for preserving historic buildings. Historic buildings can be preserved and even generate economic, social, and cultural value.
