ABSTRACT

The diversity of traditions in Indonesia is part of a culture that cannot be separated from development and presents a lot of potential to be used as inspiration. One of the areas in eastern Indonesia that has interesting traditions to discuss and has the potential to be used as inspiration is South Sulawesi. The mappalette bola tradition is the tradition of moving the house of the Bugis tribe which involves moving the house in its entirety using human assistance. This qualitative-interpretive research will discuss the physical and philosophical values of the mappalette bola tradition, then reinterpret it for implementation purposes in the development of the earthquake-resistant house foundation construction design industry. This design can provide benefits to inspire designers in designing something with deep meaning and values inspired by traditional culture.
