ABSTRACT
The Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil has produced a Landslide Susceptibility Map (LSM) of the Southern Slope of the municipality of Odivelas. Regarding the Portuguese legislation in force for the prevention of risks in potentially unstable areas, the main goal of this map is to support the ongoing urban planning on the site (155 ha), occupied by illegal constructions. Based on the information obtained about the characteristics of the ground in the study area, as well as on the consulted bibliography, six conditioning factors for landslides were selected, which in order of decreasing importance are as follows: slope, soil thickness, lithology, curvature, land use, and aspect. For each factor, classes with different degrees of susceptibility were used. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), a multicriteria analysis method, was used to structure, hierarchise and calculate the weights of those factors. Using these weights and the degrees of susceptibility assigned to the classes of each factor, a landslide susceptibility index was calculated, whose values and a susceptibility scale consisting of five classes have allowed generating the LSM.
