ABSTRACT
The reinforced fill structures are well-known and established worldwide as an economic and ecological valuable construction method. In many countries, standards and recommendations exist for reinforcing steep slopes, walls, and other applications. On the European level until now, there was only a standard for the execution of such construction available, but no standard for the design. With the second generation of Eurocode 7 (EN 1997), this gap is filled. Specific requirements for reinforcing materials (geosynthetics, steel, polymeric coated steel woven wire meshes) and specific requirements for the reinforcing elements due to the environment and their interaction with the fill material are provided with basic design approaches and appropriate partial factors.
