ABSTRACT
This article presents the earth retaining, underpinning and facades retaining solutions as part of the refurbishments works of the 260 years old Pedrosas (CTT) Palace, in Lisbon. To allow the construction of new basements, under the original foundations of the masonry building, it was necessary to design earth retaining and facades underpinning compatible solutions. The earth retaining solution consists of a reinforced concrete wall, built using the King Post Wall technique, temporary braced by ground anchors and steel struts. The underpinning and the temporary structures of the foundation were carried out using tubular micropiles. The main design criteria are presented, as well as the main monitoring and survey results.
